Micronutrient Forum 2016

The Micronutrient Forum is a consultative group that brings together researchers, policy-makers, program implementers, and private sector representatives interested in reducing micronutrient malnutrition. The Forum aims to provide a bridge between policy makers and program developers, facilitating the dissemination and translation of evidence for policy and programs, and to inform research priorities based on programmatic evidence and information needs.

This year, the Micronutrient Forum Global Conference took place in Cancun, Mexico, 24-28 October 2016,and had more than 800 participants from 75 countries. The program of the Forum followed 4 tracks, focusing on updates of the magnitude of the program, scientific evidence for interventions, programmatic experience, and aspects of the enabling environment for programs.

Held for the first time in Latin America, the 2016 Conference put women at the forefront of nutrition interventions, highlighting their role as the focus of and partners in delivering programs for children, families and communities. In particular, the Forum aimed to advance understanding of the most effective solutions to improve policy and programs for the benefit of women and girls’ health and wellbeing.

GAIN attended the Forum, bringing 15+ senior and mid-career participants, including  Lawrence Haddad, Executive Director, and Lynnette Neufeld, Director of Monitoring, Learning and Research and Chair of the Micronutrient Forum, as well as speakers in 15 sessions, a sponsored symposium on large-scale food fortification (LSFF), 10 GAIN led and 7 co-authored posters presenting research results and program experience.
