The project aims to boost poultry farmers’ capacity in egg production (SASSO) and build strong, local input systems that reliably supply feed and day-old chicks (DOCs) across the Western Province. It focuses on improving farmers’ technical skills through training on Good Agricultural Practices suited to low-input, semi-scavenging systems, supporting households to grow dual-purpose flocks, and helping small and medium farms become more professional and productive.
The project also seeks to expand farmers’ access to quality feed and DOCs by strengthening local brooder networks, enhancing local feed production, promoting alternative feed resources, and increasing the capacity of incubators and hatcheries. It will identify suitable delivery methods, value chain partners, and contractual models, and work with GAIN to set KPIs, track results, and ensure strong, integrated value chain performance.
