IDH, The Sustainable Trade Initiative was set up in 2008 as a new approach to development cooperation. Within a few years, IDH has expanded its operation into 18 different commodity sectors, working with over 250 companies in 50 different countries.

IDH’s accelerates and up-scale sustainable trade by building impact-oriented coalitions of front running companies, civil society organizations, governments and other stakeholders. By convening public & private interests, strengths, and knowledge, IDH programmes sustainably transform commodity markets to create large scale improvements in the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of small scale farmers, reduce negative environmental impact, and support local value creation in developing countries – making sustainable production and consumption the norm.
