The Fortify Forward Innovation Challenge 2024 invites entrepreneurs, researchers, innovators, and organizations to join us in a transformative journey to combat global hidden hunger and improve public health through innovative solutions in industrial food fortification and biofortification. This challenge aims to mobilize creative minds across East and West Africa, leveraging local insights and expertise to address micronutrient deficiencies that affect approximately 500 million people in Africa

. By focusing on industrial food fortification and biofortification, we seek to enhance the nutritional quality of staple foods, thus ensuring that even the most vulnerable populations have access to essential vitamins and minerals.

Duration for Innovation Challenge: September 2024- June 2025

Geography coverage of the Innovation Challenge:

East and West Africa, including countries like Tanzania, Benin, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya,

Ethiopia, Mozambique and Nigeria where GAIN operates. With Benin and Tanzania as the

operational hubs.

Applicants eligible to compete in the competition include :

Local citizens, registered entrepreneurs, and organizations in Tanzania, Benin, Rwanda,

Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Mozambique and Nigeria, having tech-based solutions, business

models, research models, food and agriculture products. These concepts must be

operationally viable in the local context, providing a solution to industrial fortification or bio-

fortification (see above) for the respective country context.

Competition selection & Categories of the competition:

A panel of thematic experts will preside over the decision-making process to select 10

solutions that will be shortlisted as winners for integration and support.

Competition Categories are:

Category I – Profitable & Sustainable Business Models to Fortify5

Category II – Aggregation/Segregation Conundrum in Biofortification

Category III – Innovative Vehicles for Food Fortification

 

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is issuing this Request for Proposal (RFP) and will be the administrative lead organisation for this RFP.

The purpose of this RFP is to engage a Service Provider for the end-to-end communication management for the Fortify Forward Innovation Challenge for Operational hubs in Tanzania and Benin, and will cover Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Mozambique and Nigeria. Benin is a French speaking nation hence communications in Benin will need to be relayed in French.

 

Scope of work and deliverables

Reporting: The agency will be reporting to Manager, Nutrition Connect (Direct Reporting).

Routine Liaising: The agency will be working closely with Senior Associate SBN Partnerships &

Communications Associate, Food Fortification.

Location: The consultant/agency should be based in Kenya

Duration of consultancy: September 2024 to February 2025

Objective: End-to-end communications management for the Fortify Forward Innovation Challenge

for East & West Africa.
