The CFS Voluntary Guidelines on food systems and nutrition are the only multilateral negotiated global policy instrument on healthy diets from sustainable food systems. The UN Food Systems Summit (UNFSS), on the other hand, is the first global summit to create healthy, sustainable, and equitable food systems and has helped spur national level food systems pathways.

In a pre-Covid-19 world, depression and anxiety were estimated to cost the global economy more than USD1 trillion per year in lost productivity. From recent discussions with companies on workplace wellbeing we notice a recurring theme: if mental health was emerging as a key focus area, it now most certainly is a priority for employers, and especially so as the pandemic continues to impact the wellbeing of millions of people around the globe.

GAIN appoints new Finance professional

On 13 September 2021, finance professional Roberta Bove was appointed as Lead of the Nutritious Foods Financing (N3F) programme at the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN). The programme aims to influence investors and existing funds to better support nutritious foods value chains, and to lead by example through a new investment facility that will specifically target nutrition in Africa.

FAO and the Global Alliance of Improved Nutrition (GAIN) co-lead the Urban Food Systems Working Group which comprises 26 organisations, including United Nations Agencies, like UN-Habitat, WHO and UNEP, city networks, like, ICLEI, C40, UCLG and Milan Urban Food Policy Pact, as well as other organisations e.g. from civil society, research institutes and academia.

I remember well the first Nutrition for Growth Summit in 2013 in London. I wrote the framing paper for that Summit: why should we invest in improving nutrition status? Answer: because 45% of under 3 mortality is linked to malnutrition.
