This conference was planned as a Tanzania-specific follow up event of the Global Summit on Food Fortification held in Arusha, Tanzania in September 2015. This event led to the Arusha Statement on Food Fortification which made a number of recommendations and a statement declaring: “We leave Arusha with the determination to build a new movement.” Two years later, it is important for stakeholders in the country to take stock and review the progress made this far, and, at the same time, agree on key lessons for continual improvement.
This event advocated for policy makers, industries, government agencies, development partners, and interested stakeholders to take the next step towards improving the food fortification programme and its coverage, as well as enforcing mandatory food fortification legislation in Tanzania for compliance.
