76th World Health Assembly Resolution on Micronutrient Fortification of Staple Foods to Prevent Birth Defects: The Way Forward

76th World Health Assembly Resolution on Micronutrient Fortification of Staple Foods to Prevent Birth Defects: The Way Forward

On May 29th, 2023, at the 76th World Health Assembly (WHA), member nations unanimously adopted the resolution entitled: Accelerating efforts for preventing micronutrient deficiencies and their consequences, including spina bifida and other neural tube defects, through safe and effective food fortification. Many organizations are using their platforms to raise awareness for birth defects, and advocate and implement recommendations from the WHA resolution on food fortification. This will have a direct effect on improving micronutrient status among women of reproductive age and preventing birth defects. As we reach the first anniversary of the WHA resolution, this webinar brings together global partners from various disciplines, including birth defects, nutrition, food fortification, and medicine, sharing their global advocacy efforts towards implementation of the resolution.

Note: This webinar will be the first in the series of two webinars on the topic, co-hosted by the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition. The second webinar will be announced shortly.
