Shireen Vakil

Head of the Policy and Advocacy Unit, Tata Trusts


Shireen heads the Policy and Advocacy unit of the Tata Trusts. With an experience of over 20 years in the development sector, Ms Vakil, brings with her a rich and varied experience in the field of Child Rights, with special emphasis to strategy development, advocacy, policy and the media, targeting both policy and public opinion in the core areas of Education, Protection, Health and Nutrition.

Shireen played a key role in the setting up of Save the Children India, and was responsible for developing the Advocacy, Campaigns and Communication function. Being the chief spokesperson for the organisation, she has written widely for newspapers and magazines and was a founding member of the Right to Education Forum, and the Pro- child coalition co –authoring and editing the Annual RTE status report in 2011 and 2015.

Prior to that as Policy Adviser on Education, for Save the Children, UK working across 20 countries in South America, Eastern Europe the Middle East and Latin America. Shireen has a Masters in Education and International Development from the Institute of Education, University of London.
