Biochemical assessment (folate, vitamin B12) & prevalence of Thalassemia genes in women of reproductive age on a subset of National Nutrition Survey-2011


The department of Paediatrics and Child Health, Aga Khan University conducted the Pakistan National Nutrition Survey in 2011 to assess the population nutritional status, particularly among women and children using standard international parameters and indicators.

With support from the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), Aga Khan University conducted a supplementary activity as an add-on to the National Nutrition Survey 2010-2011 to assess:

  1. the prevalence of folate deficiency in women of reproductive age;
  2. the prevalence of Vitamin B 12 deficiency in women of reproductive age;
  3. the concentration of CRP in women of reproductive age; and,
  4. the prevalence of Beta Thalassemia genes in in women of reproductive age on a subset.

This survey report describes the results of these additional analyses.
