Celebrating the life of David Nabarro

27 July 2025 -

It is with great sadness we learned of the sudden death of Sir David Nabarro.

David excelled in multiple fields, and was a distinguished public servant in the UK and for the United Nations over many decades. We recognise his unique contribution to lifting awareness of the importance of nutrition to all aspects of human development, particularly for infants, children and women.  He was principal architect of this new thinking, and founded the UN Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) movement, which put nutrition into the heart of the SDG development goals. He led work around the UN Food System Summit to engage peoples, as well as governments, to shape food system transformation work. His legacy will be felt for decades to come.

Prodigiously hard working, and a great listener and communicator, David was passionate about including youth, women and the representatives of the communities most at risk from malnutrition in finding solutions. He was an inspiring figure to many thousands of people working on nutrition and food.  Our thoughts and condolences go to Florence and to his family.
