Voices of Food Systems: 24-Hour Global Relay Conversation

Voices of Food Systems: 24-Hour Global Relay Conversation

The UN Food Systems Summit will launch bold new actions, solutions and strategies to deliver progress on all 17 Sustainable Development Goals, each of which relies to some degree on healthier, more sustainable and equitable food systems. The Summit will awaken the world to the fact that we all must work together to transform the way the world produces, consumes and thinks about food. This is all the more important given the reality that the ongoing pandemic presents.

The UNFSS Champions will host a Global Relay Conversation over 24 hours on World Food Day to launch the Summit Food Systems Dialogues in all parts of the world. The digital conversations will provide an immersive opportunity for governments, communities and citizens to discuss local and global food systems and identify ways they might be strengthened. This approach will allow the Summit to meet people and communities where they are in their food systems discussions. Although we can’t be together in person, our virtual launch event and dialogues will allow us to rise up and join our voices together in the safest way possible. The 24-hour Global Relay Conversation will also highlight the Action Tracks and cross cutting levers of change. The focus will be around celebration, opportunity, solutions and progress. Given we have 10 years to go on the Global Goals and are still behind in many areas, we need to stimulate greater local participation and partnership for global movement.

Lawrence Haddad, Executive Director of GAIN, has been invited to curate a 50 minute session during “Voices of Food Systems: Live 24h Global relay conversation” as a key strategic partner for the UN Food Systems Summit 2021. GAIN will take the opportunity to establish discussions around Action Track 1 of the UN Food Systems Summit: Ensure Access to Safe and Nutritious Food for All. The discussion will revolve around obesity and adolescence.
