Unlocking funding for affordable nutrition

Unlocking funding for affordable nutrition

Poor diets are now the number one risk factor for morbidity and mortality globally. Scaling up proven nutrition interventions and improving diets by increasing access and affordability to nutrient rich foods has substantial positive health outcomes. However, market constraints – including the lack of access to capital among agri-food businesses –limits the creation of promising approaches to bring nutritious, safe and affordable foods to emerging markets.

Join panellists from DSM, GAIN, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Capital 4 Development in this discussion on how the private sector (from micro enterprises through to SMEs to large multinationals) can contribute to reducing malnutrition and why they should do it. We will look at the range of financing we need to improve nutrition – from grants, to venture philanthropy to debt and equity and share case studies demonstrating what has worked to improve nutrition through market-based solutions.
