Equal Access, Better Nutrition: Championing Women in Food Systems Equality and nutrition: Empowering Women through Food Security

Food insecurity disproportionately affects women and girls globally, with significant implications for maternal and child nutrition. Despite women being primary food producers in many regions, they often face limited access to resources, decision-making power, and nutritious food. Based on gender assessments conducted in CASCADE contexts, discrimination against women and girls continue to drive food and nutrition security. Social norms and practices inherent in this context limit women’s access to productive resources and markets and specific value chains. Unequal bargaining positions and the gendered division of labor marginalize women from decision-making spheres at all levels and; perpetuate Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
To tackle the harmful social norms and structural barriers, CASCADE program places women and girls at the centre of its food and nutrition work. CASCADE has applied proven practices, approaches and models in a contextualised, flexible and adaptive way framed around three levels of change: building agency and amplifying women’s voices; changing unequal power relations and supporting structures, systems and policies that are responsive to the needs of women.

This webinar explores the intersection of women's empowerment and food security, highlighting CASCADE's approaches to improving nutrition and building resilience for women of reproductive age and children.
