Google Maps for Food Systems: A new dashboard to inform better food and nutrition policy

The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) will organize a High-Level Virtual Special Event on Global Governance of Food Security and Nutrition, 13 - 15 October 2020. The session, in lieu of CFS 47 which has been rescheduled to 8 - 12 February 2021 in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, will seek to keep food security and nutrition front and centre on the global sustainable development agenda.

This session, with opening remarks from Anna Lartey, Director for Nutrition at the FAO, and moderated by Lawrence Haddad, Executive Director of The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, will introduce the two initiatives: Food System Dashboard and no regrets policy . The Food System Dashboard, introduced by Professor Jessica Fanzo, Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Global Food and Agriculture Policy and Ethics at John Hopkins University, is a new tool developed by JHU, GAIN, FAO and other partners to help decision makers navigate this sometimes overwhelming terrain. The No Regret set of policy action to shape food systems, as explained by Prof. Corinna Hawkes, Director of the Centre for Food Policy at City, University of London, will support governments and others to zero in on what they can do to transform their food systems so that they are more likely to ensure access to safe, nutritious and affordable food for everyone.

After the key remarks, there will be an interactive panel discussion with the following experts including:

  • Roy Steiner, Senior Vice President, Food Initiative, the Rockefeller Foundation
