2019 Annual Gathering and Mayor’s Summit of the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP)

2019 Annual Gathering and Mayor’s Summit of the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP)

The Milan Urban Food Policy Pact 5th Annual Gathering and Mayors’ Summit will be hosted in Montpellier on October 7-9, 2019. The gathering will be the opportunity to share initiatives and advancements towards the implementation of better food systems in cities, moreover it will highlight the strong link existing between the 2030 UN Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals and urban food issues.

Thanks to a holistic vision and a systemic approach to food policy, every aspect will be tackled, from biodiversity to the fight against hunger, from infrastructure to education, from water to climate.

Mayors and cities representatives will be invited to share their experience because it is with local solutions that we will be able to jointly meet global challenges. Political players, experts and researchers, UN agencies, the civil society and other stakeholders will also provide useful insights to contribute to the effort to build urban food policies.

Conclusions from the MUFPP regional meetings will also be presented.

It is in this framework that GAIN in collaboration with the MUFPP Secretariat and RUAF will launch the ‘Menu of actions to shape urban food environments for improved nutrition’. Cities around the world have implemented actions to shape the food environment, but many cities have expressed a need for guidance on the kinds of actions they could introduce to tackle the nutrition-related problems they face.

The 'Menu of actions to shape urban food environments for improved nutrition' has been developed by GAIN, the MUFPP Secretariat and RUAF as a reference document that seeks to meet this need. It contains a large number of examples of policies and programmes, from countries in every region and in all income bands, to inspire and encourage other cities to initiate actions.
