Africa Food Systems Forum (AGRF)

The Africa Food Systems Forum will host its annual summit from September 2-6, 2024 in Kigali Convention Centre, Rwanda.

Africa’s Food Systems Forum, formerly AGRF, is the world’s premier forum for African agriculture and food systems, bringing together stakeholders to take practical actions and share lessons that will move African food systems forward. Africa Food Systems Forum is designed to energise political will and advance the policies, programs, and investments required to achieve an inclusive and sustainable food systems transformation.

This year’s summit will “spotlight the continental agenda on food systems, showcase innovative approaches, solutions, proven business models, best practices and latest technologies that could transform agriculture and food systems to ensure food and nutrition security in Africa while creating jobs and opportunities for youth and women.

Lawrence Haddad
Executive Director, GAIN

Dr Lawrence Haddad is GAIN’s Executive Director since 2016. In such capacity, he was one of the movers and shakers behind the I-CAN initiative at COP27 in 2022; he chaired action Track 1 of the 2021 United Nations Food Systems Summit to ensure access to safe and nutritious food for all; and he is also the co-convener of the Standing Together for Nutrition in response to the COVID19 pandemic and the current food crisis.

Mduduzi Mbuya
Director, Knowledge Leadership

Mduduzi Mbuya is Director, Knowledge Leadership, where he is responsible for research and evaluation at GAIN. He works with colleagues to generate and use evidence to guide improved program design and implementation and to fill critical gaps in the global evidence.

Penjani Mkambula
Deputy Director, Programme Services Team

Penjani Mkambula is Deputy Director, Programme Services at the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN). He provides strategic and technical leadership to GAIN’s programmes globally. He also works with GAIN colleagues and partners on programme design and implementation. He has over 20 years’ experience both in non-profit and private sectors.

Ruth Okowa
Country Director, Kenya

Ruth joins GAIN from BRAC International where she was the Regional Director for Africa for 4 years. Over the years she played crucial roles in top leadership positions in various local and international organisations involved in development that include areas of child rights, welfare, and education, health, Water, Hygiene and Sanitation, Agriculture and food security, Youth empowerment, advocacy, and emergencies.

Country Director, Nigeria

Michael leads GAIN’s work in Nigeria focused on transforming our food systems to make healthier and sustainable food choices more affordable, available and desirable including work to scale up business investments in nutritious food value chains, reduce postharvest losses, secure better diets for children, and progress food fortification at scale.
