Global Food Fortification Advocacy Toolkit
Vitamin and mineral deficiencies are a significant public health problem, affecting 1 in 2 children and 2 in 3 women of reproductive age worldwide. The impacts can be severe, including birth defects of the brain and spine, death in childbirth, childhood blindness, and compromised immune systems. Large Scale Food Fortification (LSFF) is a key part of the solution as the intervention best suited to tackle this enormous challenge at scale.

GAIN celebrates International Women's Day 2024
International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8th every year. IWD is a global event dedicated to recognising the achievements of women across various fields, promoting gender equality, and raising awareness about the challenges women continue to face worldwide. It has been consistently celebrated by numerous organisations, governments, and communities around the globe, including GAIN.

World Breastfeeding Week 2024
World-over, the first week of August is observed as ‘Breastfeeding Week’. This global campaign aims to raise awareness about breastfeeding and its advantages. World Breastfeeding Week, coordinated by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), revolves around strengthening the capacity of actors that protect, promote and support breastfeeding across different levels of society.
COP29
The 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP29) will convene in November 2024. The summit is held by the United Nations as a way to bring diplomats, heads of state and climate advocates together to form an international response to climate change. COP29 will be GAIN's fourth COP, and our second as an accredited NGO.
The Food Systems Countdown Initiative Policy Report 2023
Food systems are a foundation of human and planetary well-being and central to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Yet they also contribute to ill health, inequity, environmental degradation, and greenhouse gas emissions. These challenges demand urgent food systems transformation. Such a transformation requires understanding the status of food systems across their diverse functions.
GAIN@COP
COP28 will be GAIN's third COP, and our first as an accredited NGO. At COP27, we participated in two key sessions on the Presidency programme, as well as a wide range of events in the Food Systems Pavilion, Food4Climate Pavilion, Food and Agriculture Pavilion, and other pavilions where food systems were featured.

Taking action - the World Health Assembly (WHA) Resolution on Food Fortification
The WHA resolution "Accelerating efforts for preventing micronutrient deficiencies and their consequences, including spina bifida and other neural tube defects, through safe and effective food fortification," has united the health policy, disability rights, and nutrition communities in a joint effort to combat micronutrient deficiencies and their effects worldwide.
