G.M. Reza Sumon is the Project Manager and Lead for Workforce Nutrition and Fresh Market at the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is a public health and nutrition professional with more than 15 years of experience, including 9 years with GAIN, working at the intersection of nutrition, labour, food safety, and private sector engagement. He holds an MPH in Nutrition and graduate and undergraduate degrees in Anthropology from the University of Chittagong.
Sumon leads GAIN Bangladesh's workforce nutrition portfolio, including the Workforce Nutrition programme, which has run across three consecutive funding cycles with VF Corporation since 2019 and now reaches ready-made garment workers through factory-based interventions such as Fair Price Shops and the Farm-to-Factory Nutrition model. He also leads GAIN's fresh market and traditional food market safety work in Bangladesh. Between 2020 and 2022 he served as a Global Co-Lead for Keeping Food Market Working, supporting programmes in Ethiopia, Mozambique, Tanzania and Kenya. Prior to GAIN, he held urban programme and advocacy roles with BRAC, including managing a ready-made garment worker project.
He contributed to the nutrition provisions of Bangladesh's 2025 Labour Law Amendment and advises the World Health Organization on traditional food markets in the Asia-Pacific region, the Food and Agriculture Organization on local and traditional food markets, and the national Codex Alimentarius process. He spoken different International Conference and serves as a peer reviewer for Food Control (Elsevier).
