GAIN Student Challenge 2024

With this Student Challenge, GAIN aims to engage students from diverse backgrounds raising awareness of our work on food, nutrition and food systems. Through expert sessions, we will deepen the students’ understanding of food systems and the global nutrition situation including the link to climate. The students will get insights into the challenges faced when trying to improve international food systems and nutrition. Coaching will be provided on interdisciplinary teamwork and on how to pitch their solutions to a professional jury.
COP29
The 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP29) will convene in November 2024. The summit is held by the United Nations as a way to bring diplomats, heads of state and climate advocates together to form an international response to climate change. COP29 will be GAIN's fourth COP, and our second as an accredited NGO.

United Nations Biodiversity Conference - COP16
At COP 16, governments will be tasked with reviewing the state of implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Parties to the Convention are expected to show the alignment of their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) with the Framework. COP 16 will further develop the monitoring framework and advance resource mobilisation for the Global Biodiversity Framework. Among other tasks, COP 16 is also due to finalise and operationalise the multilateral mechanism on the fair and equitable sharing of benefits from the use of digital sequence information on genetic resources.
Committee on World Food Security - CFS 52

The 52nd Plenary Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS 52) will be held from 21 to 25 October 2024 in Rome, Italy.
World Food Day
The world's farmers produce enough food to feed more than the global population yet, hunger persists. Up to 783 million people face hunger due to conflict, repeated weather shocks and economic downturns. This impacts the poor and vulnerable most severely, many of whom are agricultural households, reflecting widening inequalities across and within countries.
Summit of the Future

The high-level event will bring together UN Member States, UN agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations (CSOs), academic institutions, the private sector, and youth under the theme, ‘Summit of the Future: Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow’. The Summit aims to forge a new global consensus on what our future should look like, and what we can do today to secure it.
