RFP -Commercialization of biofortified crops: supply chain; policy; and consumer demand assessments

In May 2018, HarvestPlus and GAIN announced a partnership to accelerate progress in improving access to essential vitamins and minerals for vulnerable people, through the commercialization of biofortified crops. GAIN and HarvestPlus share an ambition to expand coverage of biofortified nutrient dense foods for consumers across Africa and Asia. The focus will be on biofortified varieties of six highly promising crops, developed by HarvestPlus and its partners.

In order to be able to develop impactful implementation and roll out strategies, GAIN and HarvestPlus are jointly issuing this Request for Proposal (RFP) to carry out a series of inter-related assessments, for each country and crop combination, around (i) supply and value chain strength and readiness, (ii) consumer demand for biofortified crops and foods, and (iii) the policy environment. The findings from these assessments will be used to determine the opportunity for each country and crop combination and finalize the design of appropriate interventions to reach scale.

The attached RFP outlines the scope of work and timeline for this important exercise. The deadline for submission of questions is 28th April 2019 and the overall deadline for submissions is 12th May 2019. Please send any communications related to this RFP to Dan Haswell (dhaswell@gainhealth.org) and Steve Orr (s.orr@cgiar.org).
