#UrbanNutrition: eliminating malnutrition in all its forms in the face of unprecedented rapid urbanisation

On 17 to 20 January 2017, the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting brought together political and business leaders to shape global, regional and industry agendas with the aim to improve the state of our planet and to encourage public-private cooperation. GAIN and partners are put the spotlight on urban nutrition and on improving food systems in developing countries, especially in Africa.

Given the pressing challenges posed by raising urbanization across the globe, GAIN, the SUN Business Network (SBN) and the International Food Policy and Research Institute (IFPRI) decided to convene an open conversation on urban nutrition and on improving food systems in developing countries. The purpose of the event titled “#UrbanNutrition: eliminating malnutrition in all its forms in the face of unprecedented rapid urbanisation” was to build upon the discussions from our recent official side event of Habitat III “Good Governance for Healthy and Sustainable Urban Food Systems” and to discuss possible #UrbanNutrition solutions to improve access to safe and nutritious foods, as well as reduce carbon footprints and create jobs.
