Matt Freeman
Acting Director, Business Development
Matt Freeman is the Acting Director for Business Development at GAIN. Prior to joining GAIN, he spent four years with the US Government, beginning with a two year Presidential Management Fellowship (PMF) program which brought post-graduate students into government leadership. Matt began his government career through the PMF program at the United States Mint, leading their strategic marketing efforts. From there, he transitioned to the US Department of State where he helped establish a new unit, the Global Partnership Initiative, with the goal of building public – private partnerships to achieve development goals. After his time at the Department of State, Matt joined the US Agency for International Development (USAID) as a senior bilateral donor coordinator where he remained for the final two years of his government career. During his time at USAID, Matt worked with key donors from around the world on policy and program coordination and also led an international donor working group to create the Bilateral Donor Statement in Support of Private Sector Partnerships for Development, a policy statement promoting the role of the private sector in development which was formally launched during the 2010 UN General Assembly. Prior to becoming a Presidential Management Fellow, Matt studied law at the University of San Francisco and received his undergraduate degree in Philosophy from UCLA.
