The Senior Associate will work with the Manager, Infant and Young Child Nutrition Program, in designing and implementing the IYCN Program aimed at supporting the production, marketing and distribution of low cost Fortified Complementary Foods (FCFs) and Complementary Food Supplements (CFSs) targeted for infants and children aged 6 to 24 months.
Specific tasks include the following:
1. Collaborates with GAIN staff, contractors and grantees to plan and implement IYCN activities.
2. Manages research contracts and grants including developing contractual agreements, ensuring milestones are met, reviewing progress reports and approving disbursements of funds for IYCN projects.
3. Reviews and oversees collection of monitoring and evaluation frameworks, indicators and tools to measure the performance of GAIN’s IYCN program, and trains staff on these indicators.
4. Travels to low-income countries to deliver technical assistance to grantees related to GAIN’s IYCN programs.
5. Serves as GAINs representative to Codex.
6. Conducts reviews of literature and prepares policy as well as technical position papers.
7. Aids in management of GAIN’s IYCN Technical Advisory Groups and GAIN’s independent project review processes.
8. Prepares high-quality, rigorous reports and other materials to communicate the performance of GAIN’s programs to GAIN’s senior management, Board of Directors, donors and the general public.
9. Plans and executes technical workshops including preparation of background materials and presentations.
10. Represents GAIN at technical meetings and conferences, upon request.
11. Aids in annual work and budget planning processes.
12. Develops fundraising proposals.

Supervisory Responsibility
Together with the Manager, IYCN, the Senior Associate supervises the work of an Administrative Assistant.
Required Qualifications
Education
PhD-level degree in nutrition, public health or suitable equivalents.
Experience
Three to seven years of work experience in nutrition or public health or suitable equivalent, with proven technical and project management skills. Direct experience working in low-income countries required. Direct work experience related to infant and young child nutrition, nutrition survey design and/or communications in nutrition. Knowledge of, or participation in, global policy development processes.
Languages
Excellent command of spoken and written English is a must. French or other languages are a strong plus.
