Building Partnerships
The GAIN Business Alliance India was launched in March 2007. In India, the estimated number of child deaths precipitated by vitamin A deficiency is 30,000 per year. More than 6 million children are born without adequate protection from iodine deficiency disorders that could prevent them from reaching their true intellectual potential.
The GAIN Business Alliance India provides technical assistance in launching or scaling up affordable fortified foods, assistance to build partnerships between the public and private sectors, identifies the benefits and challenges of food fortification, and finds new funding options and models for companies. The fast-growing economy of India and its innovation can play a key role in developing new business models for the bottom of the pyramid. It is there that the GAIN Business Alliance India seeks to make the most progress.
