 Power from below: test kits in the hands of retailers pressure producer to iodize salt

Providing salt retailers with test kits for iodized salt so that they can test the salt they purchase at wholesale markets. This creates pressure on salt producers to iodize their salt and drives non-iodized salt out of the market. More info on the project

The VitaGoat program improves nutrition in rural areas of developing countries – where malnutrition rates for   children are typically over 50%. VitaGoat equipment produces low-cost whole protein from soy; micronutrients are added to address the most vital aspects of malnutrition: a sustainable micro-enterprise that needs neither electricity nor running water. Our business model combines effective interventions for both the treatment and prevention of malnutrition, via locally manufactured RUTFs and sustainable agricultural development programs. Project Healthy Children (PHC) has developed with Stanford University and the Micronutrient Initiative, the technology to fortify foods for vulnerable and malnourished populations. Innovation: an affordable (US 100) simple device for small-scale electric millers to weigh and proportionally dispense nutrients into grain in an effective and accurate way.
