Description

GAIN, in collaboration with WFP, has conducted a food aid fortification study which examined the current situation of micronutrient fortification of food aid with particular focus on:

  • what staple foods, oil and salt are procured
  • how much and from where
  • where fortification takes place
  • policies and procedures that govern fortification of staple food and oil food aid

The results of the food aid fortification study are used to determine whether or not more food aid can be fortified and how this might be accomplished. The programmatic implications of the food aid fortification study are currently being worked out between partners.
