GAIN significantly reduces vitamin and mineral deficiencies among the world’s nutritionally vulnerable people by supporting large-scale, market-based fortification of staple foods and condiments.
GAIN promotes and supports the marketing of fortified foods in 17 countries. These programs are national or sub-national in scope and managed by a broad coalition of governmental, private sector and civil society partners. A national multi-sectoral committee, known as the National Fortification Alliance, is established to develop and submit the project idea to GAIN for funding.
These projects go through a rigorous screening and receive technical advice to ensure they are innovative and deliver improved nutrition to millions of people. They are then implemented with clear targets that are to be achieved within 6 months, 3 years and 5 years. More information on each of these projects is available through a list and a map.
