Cote Ivoire - Promotion of Fortified Food (Projet Ivoirien de Promotion des Aliments Fortifiés or PIPAF)
At the end of five years, all the refined vegetable oil produced in the country will be fortified with vitamin A, and 99.7% of the wheat flour will be fortified with iron and folic acid.
Target group
Vitamin A deficiency affects 24% of children under five, and iron deficiency anemia affects 50% of women of reproductive age.

Oil with vitamin A: To provide refined vegetable oil fortified with vitamin A to the population within 3 years of the program, with the aim that 80% of households consume fortified oil. Specific objectives are: Increase the proportion of available, refined vegetable oil fortified with vitamin A from 70% to 100%, within 18 months. Assure, at all levels, surveillance and quality control of vitamin A-fortified refined vegetable oil. Conduct optimal communication and marketing activities to enable the population to be aware of the benefits and consume the fortified products

Description
PIPAF aims, in the long term, to improve the overall nutritional status of the Ivorian population while contributing to a notable reduction in vitamin A, iron and folic acid deficiencies. This project will reinforce strategies that are already in place for achieving this objective. In addition, it aims to make available to disadvantaged populations, quality foods at affordable prices that provide them with at least 50% of their vitamin A needs
