JOHANNESBURG OFFICE

The GAIN East and Southern Africa office comprises five full-time staff and five rotating consultants. Located halfway between Pretoria and Johannesburg in Midrand, the office is situated in a mixed commercial and residential area. This particular branch of GAIN is housed by the Development Bank of Southern Africa (all staff here hold DBSA work contracts), and the building is not far from the DBSA offices.

A distinguishing characteristic of the South Africa office is the diverse nationalities of the staff team (Ghanaian, Canadian, Zimbabwean, South African) and the range of languages spoken which include English, Ga, Fante, French, Swahili, Gujurati, Shona, Ndebele, Afrikaans and Japanese. Not only does this present significant advantages in day-to-day operations, but contributes to a dynamic environment with much mutual sharing and learning.

The team is kept constantly busy, involved in projects and interactions at both a local and international level. Hard work is tempered by fun staff social activities, which range from lunches with visiting GAIN employees, to Christmas parties, staff dinners and barbeques. A comprehensive welcome programme is in place for new staff who are assisted at every level for the first three months and given the DBSA orientation manual.

Collaboration is the hallmark of the GAIN East and Southern Africa office which is equipped with state-of-the-art communication tools to enable real-time communication with HQ and all partners.
