Why GAIN is different
GAIN – the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition – is one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic humanitarian organisations in the world. Our mission is to end malnutrition around the globe.
Malnutrition accounts for 11 percent of the global burden of disease. Every year it kills 3.5 million children under five and impairs hundreds and thousands of growing minds. Those worst affected, the ‘bottom billion’, are least able to help themselves; in just a few short years, GAIN has become acknowledged as one of the leading voices in the fight against this injustice. The source of GAIN’s recognition lies in our ability to solve issues through strong, successful strategic partnerships.
GAIN garners support globally, but operates locally. GAIN partners are some of the most successful organisations and companies in the world: Unilever, Cargill, Coca-Cola, Mars, PepsiCo, The World Food Programme, UNICEF, WHO etc. The secret of GAIN’s success lies in developing local alliances, on-the-ground. We understand how to best help those most in need.
GAIN operates in the public sector and demonstrates the drive of the private sector. The organisation combines initiative, entrepreneurial spirit and efficiency with a passion for making a difference - a difference that ultimately saves lives.
GAIN is extremely innovative - and extremely results-driven. Creativity is positively encouraged and forms part of the company’s ‘DNA’. GAIN’s efforts have already led to a number of successes and the work of the organisation is currently being supported by a second round of funding secured with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
