Use Iodized Salt:  A Call to Action for the Food Industry

Food companies can play a critical role to protect consumer health and engage in the global effort to eliminate iodine deficiency at virtually no added cost.

Universal Salt Iodization (USI), or the fortification of salt with iodine, is recognized globally as the simplest, safest, and most cost-effective intervention to prevent iodine deficiency, and today more than 170 countries have committed to USI. Replacing non-iodized salt with iodized salt in processed foods does not require a change in the production process, nor any technological investment, but can add brand value and create a positive health impact.
