GAIN Liaison Office Middle East and North Africa (MENA) - Cairo, Egypt

Project Highlights
The Middle East and North Africa Liaison Office supports the implementation and monitoring of GAIN-funded projects such as a project in Egypt in partnership with the UN World Food Programme and the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity that is
reaching millions of Egyptians with government subsidized Baladi bread fortified with iron and folic acid. Baladi bread is the staple food of poor Egyptians.
In July 2009, the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nehayan Foundation announced funding for a GAIN-supported project to reduce deaths and disabilities associated with nutritional deficiencies in Afghanistan, particularly among women and children. GAIN will use the grant to increase consumption of fortified foods (wheat flour, vegetable oil and ghee, and salt), and fortified complementary foods for children aged 6 to 24 months.
