Geneva, 12 February (GAIN) – An IMD case study on Tetra Pak’s school feeding in Nigeria, implemented in collaboration with GAIN, has won the 2007 Award for the best case study on corporate social responsibility of the European Foundation for Management Development.
“The award for this case study is very encouraging. It recognizes the groundbreaking work of Tetra Pak and its partners to fight malnutrition, and stimulates new innovations by social entrepreneurs to tackle this major global challenge,” says Bérangère Magarinos, Senior Manager of GAIN.
The school feeding program entails the distribution of a nutritious food supplement called Nutri-Sip to 200,000 school children in Nigeria by a partnership of Tetra Pak, the Nasarawa State Government, Solae, and local food partners.
Nutri-Sip is a well-balanced nutritious drink that provides children with much-needed proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals. The product is locally sourced and is processed to ensure a shelf-life of 12 months at ambient temperatures.
GAIN provides support to the program by evaluating the health impacts of the supplement. This evaluation is currently underway and final results are expected by the end of May 2008.
The case study, written by Aileen Ionescu-Somers and Ulrich Stegers of the renowned business school IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland, describes the process by which the program was developed and implemented.
“The beauty of the case study is that it provides plenty of ‘food for thought’ on the formidable challenge of CSR and thereby is a tool to help change and evolve the thinking of executives with regard to the role of business in society," says Dr. Aileen Ionescu-Sommers, Deputy Director of the Forum for Corporate Sustainability Management.
It was awarded by EFMD as the best case study on work carried out under the umbrella of corporate social responsibility. The Award ceremony will be held at the EFMD annual conference in Oslo from 8 to 10 June 2008.
