Fortification

GAIN has channeled US$ 37 million to improving nutrition in developing countries.

So far, a total of US$ 37 million has been provided to national fortification projects that are implemented by a national alliance. These are made up by government agencies, the private sector and civil society organizations. The project is often led by one of GAIN's international partners such as UNICEF, WFP or the World Bank.

GAIN funds can be applied to many different aspects of fortification programs, such as the preparation of national legislation covering regulatory and control measures; new technology and equipment; quality control; and marketing and consumer education.

All proposals went through a rigorous screening process and technical advice to arrive at the best possible projects. The GAIN Board in the end takes the final decision on who receives granst. Following the signature of a grant agreement, the national alliance reports back regularly on progress made, and can call on technical assistance from GAIN to deal with emerging issues at any time.
